From The Crowd | Great Lake Swimmers - “The Partisan”

From The Crowd shares some our favorite past concert moments captured in video (albeit sometimes shakey and out of focus). Unlike some of our other scheduled features, these videos will be posted sporadically. Chances are you may have been in the audience, if so, please feel free to leave your remembrances in the comments.

Great Lake Swimmers Ongiara was one of our favorite records of all last year. I caught them on two consecutive nights, first at Cafe Montmartre in Madison and the following night (my birthday) in Chicago at Schuba’s. In the past Tony Dekker has captivated me with covers of Tom Waits’ “Innocent When You Dream” and Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m Going Down.” At Cafe Montmartre he dusted off his take on Leonard Cohen’s “The Partisan,” enjoy it below.

Ongiara is a great album. I’ve got to kind of abashedly admit that I got into Great Lake Swimmers based on a cut they did for a Nettwerk collection called “For The Kids”. Did an interview with Tony Dekker a wee while back if you’re interested in checking it out.
