I realize posting this lineup is old shoe considering it’s made the rounds twice by now, but I’m on the fence. Obviously, David Byrne is the biggest draw to the festival for me this year. I would go for sure if I could stand in the front row his set and not die of dehydration. I would also go for sure if I was guaranteed new material by Beck. Speaking of new material, does anyone think Rick Rubin will do wonders to Jacob Dylan’s upcoming solo record (two new songs on myspace)?
Austin City Limits goes down September 26-28th, my hotel reservations have been made, just waiting to purchase airfare. Pros and cons? Who’s going? Why or why not? Other factors to consider before distilling your advice are:
My love of Texas BBQ
My love of Heineken in 100+ temperatures
My love of short walking distances between stages
My wish of Chris from Gorilla vs. Bear to take a Polaroid of me w/David Byrne

I’d go if it were cheap and convenient, but like you the only big draw there for me is Byrne. All the others I care about I’ve either seen recently or expect to come through my local area (Atlanta/Athens) soon. Maybe it’s just how many festivals there are these days, but they also just don’t feel like special events anymore. To me, at least.
Still, you’re not getting that Polariod taken from home.

I bought my tickets before the lineup came out, and when I saw DB was playing…it was like opening up that present you always wanted more than anything else in the world on Christmas day.
There are a lot of bands on the list that I haven’t gotten the chance to see in concert before, so I’m excited beyond belief. Plus throw in favorites like David Byrne and Neko Case, I’m more excited for this than Lollapalooza.
I’m with you as far as the love of short distances between stages….although you’re on your own about the beer in 100 degree weather.
Midwest flies to Austin…get your tickets!

reasons to go: neko case (who isn’t touring with the NP’s this round), jenny lewis (solo), gillian welch, band of horses (only other fest i saw they’re playing is sasquatch), okkervil river, and about 20 bands waiting to be discovered!
reasons not to go: you are an albino

make sure to keep your eyes open for aftershows – definitely one of the highlights from last year was catching ghostland observatory at stubbs. a lot of the bands are off-beat for me this year, but i look forward to wandering the grounds in a dehydrated stupor while getting my mind blown at unexpected intervals. jamie lidell/jose gonzales/gogol bordello/iron&wine/neko!!!

Lot of overlap from Lollapalooza (for obvious reasons) but I’d still go if I weren’t going to Lollapalooza (and made poor by that fact).
