MoB: Always a foot-stompin’ good time in concert, we’re thrilled to be presenting his show here in Madison. This self-titled record features heartfelt numbers that easy to fall in love with and hard to get out of your head.

Artist: Jamie Lidell
Album: Jim
Label: Warp
Myspace: Jamie Lidell
Video: Jamie Lidell – “Another Day”
Upcoming: 6/4 – Abbey Pub, Chicago
MoB: Jamie’s music has always held up well as a backdrop to late night excursions and on dance floors worldwide. Seeing him live is about the biggest cup of soul a human body can handle. This one will remain in heavy rotation all summer long.

Artist: The Roots
Album: Rising Down
Label: Def Jam
Myspace: The Roots
Video: The Roots – “Birthday Girl”
Upcoming: 5/30 w/Erykah Badu – Chicago Theatre | 7/4 – Summerfest, Milwaukee
MoB: Initial reviews brought out the haters, but I’m finding a lot to enjoy on this record. Features guest appearances by Talib Kweli, Common, Wale, and Mos Def.

Artist: Santogold
Album: Santogold
Label: Downtown
Myspace: Santogold
Video: Santogold – “L.E.S. Artistes”
MoB: “Santogold’s self-titled 12-track debut album is full of kitschy new wave reggae, club pop dance hall anthems, and just overall fun. It’s no mystery how comparisons have been drawn to the likes of former tour mate M.I.A.; both are ferociously radical female singers and have exuberantly sharp fashion tastes. And they’re both danceable as hell.” Read the rest of our review here.

Artist: Constantines
Album: Kensington Heights
Label: Arts & Crafts
Myspace: Constantines
MP3:
Video: Constantines – “Kissing With Braces”
MoB: Another great release from this Canadian group. Start to finish we’re hard pressed to find a better rock and roll record released this year. “Life Or Death” is one of our favorite tracks of the year.

Artist: Portishead
Album: Third
Label: Mercury
Myspace: Portishead
Video: Portishead – “Machine Gun”
MoB: If you can get past the abrupt stop on the opening track “Silence” you’ve got yourself one amazing record in your hands. Coming off a blistering set at Coachella and recently saluted with the Best New Music stamp of approval, this one is just about essential.
