We Like: Nick Cave :: Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!!

How great is Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!!? We already gave it the Tuesday’s Gold treatment, but damn if this album doesn’t worm its way deep inside the way all good Nick Cave records always do. Does “More News From Nowhere” capture your real-life party experiences or just your dreams? Who hasn’t dreamed of stabbing a cyclops with a pen? What is your favorite record by Nice Cave (in any incarnation)? What do you think the universal collective favorite is?

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds have announced dates from their world tour (we’re catching them in Berlin next month) and though we’re sad there is no Wisconsin date, our Chicago readers can put a special red circle around Monday, September 29th when they make an appearance at the Riviera Theatre.

Murder Ballads and The Boatman’s Call are great. Each one captures distinctly different emotions, yet somehow have the same sinister sense of humor.

I know that my pick won’t be a popular one, but I think “No More Shall We Part” is just an amazing album – perhaps my favorite. That being said, the man has been on a tear lately! Is there another artist that has had the 5- 6 album run that Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds have had? Dig Lazarus Dig continues the hot streak.

My favorite is probably Abbatoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus. Although I find myself listening to Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!! almost daily. It might make its way to the top of his catalog very soon.

I agree with Matt above….you should check out the movie “Proposition”…an Australian “western”. Cave did the screenplay and music. Well worth a look and listen. One big thumbs up!

Also check out “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” not only does Cave provide the music, but he makes an appearance in the film too.

  6. Eric308 Says:

Correct….watched that looooong movie last night. Cave was the bowery saloon singer toward the the end. Also, Bob Ford’s woman friend at the end is Zoey Dechannel (sp) who has a new album out with M. Ward called “She and Him”.

When playing the singer at the end of the movie he originally had some lines to speak but with only one attempt the director gave them to another extra, seems Nicks acting aint up to much..
