Chicago Concert Announcement: My Bloody Valentine

Remember My Bloody Valentine? It’s been 16 years since the band last played Chicago, but that will be old news come Saturday, September 27th, when the newly reunited perform at the Aragon Ballroom.

I’m now scanning my external hard drive for all their old records in preparation. Anyone catch them the last time they swung through the Midwest? Anyone seen them live ever? Favorite album?

Tickets: $40 / On Sale: Saturday, May 10th @ 11:00am via Ticketmaster.

How embarrassing. I just wet my pants at work. Damn you My Bloody Valentine for coming out of retirement!

If it does prove to be their only midwest show, everything might be fine, but the Aragon is HUGE. At 40 bucks a pop, I have to wonder if they’re going to even get the place half-filled. No swipe at the band, who have justifiably been lauded as the landmark act they were, but a half-empty Aragon is not a good thing. Heck, even a totally full Aragon has a long list of flaws.

    Still, it’s totally exciting.

I saw em back in the early ’90s. It is still the most amazing concert I’ve ever been to, and I’ve seen plenty before and after. It was also the loudest things I’ve ever heard. They did a 10 minute version of You Made Me Realise that turned into pure noise. It made it hard to breathe because of the pressure from the sound waves. People ran out of the hall, but I loved every minute.

i find their records (yes even including Loveless) very overrated, but have heard nothing but amazing things about the live show.

Worrying about them filling up the aragorn seems a bit distanced from the canonization of the band after they broke up. Conservatively, I can’t imagine the tickets are on sale more than 48 hours before they sell out. This is going to be like the first Pixies shows after they got back together, selling out venues in Saskatchewan in 25 minutes.
