Tuesday’s Gold: What We Recommend #56

Each Tuesday stop by Muzzle of Bees for our recommended purchases for the week. Here are the albums we suggest for the release date of May 6th:

Artist: No Age
Album: Nouns
Label: Sub Pop
Myspace: No Age
MP3: No Age – “Eraser”
Video: No Age – “Everybody’s Down”
MoB: SXSW darlings, Pitchfork adored, who can argue with their popularity? Initial reservations and blog hype resulted in hesitancy on my part, repeated listens have calmed my nerves and made me a fan.

Artist: Elvis Costello & the Imposters
Album: Momofuku
Label: Lost Highway
Myspace: Elvis Costello & the Imposters
Video: Elvis Costello – “Peace Love and Understanding”
Upcoming: 7/25 – w/The Police – Marcus Amphitheater, Milwaukee
MoB: Originally planned as a vinyl (+ MP3) only release, then the record company weighed in with their concerns and now it’s available in every form known to man, except cassette. Spending time with this record was a calculated effort to familiarize with myself with Mr. Costello. The guest appearance by the lovely Jenny Lewis didn’t hurt either. Now I’m taking suggestions on where to go from here. Want to hear the album in full? Go here.

In regards to Elvis Costello there are two sides to him; the bitter rocker and the less bitter crooner, I prefer the rocker although the record he did with Burt Bacharach wasn’t bad. You can’t fail with “My Aim is True.” I also recommend “This Year’s Model.”

  2. Jim Melcher Says:

“Imperial Bedroom” has the cleverly contrived lyrics with less of the bitterness and more musical imagination than the earlier albums. I imagine that this album inspired Aimee Mann’s “Bachelor No. 2,” which occupies a place in my favorite albums with “Imperial Bedroom.”
