Madison Roots Festival

Have you heard G. Love and Special Sauce + John Butler Trio are the headliners for the 2nd Annual Madison Roots Festival on Saturday, August 2nd? Does that do anything for you? Who played the 1st Madison Roots Festival? Isn’t that the same date as another major festival?

The event will take place at Willow Island at the Alliant Energy Center (that’s the same place the Flaming Lips played last summer) and the line-up will be bolstered by more soon to be announced acts. Tickets ain’t cheap: $27 in advance and $35 the day of the event.

Who’s going? How much do you think beers will be? Can Triple M + Scion throw a better party than SoCo? Who is your favorite Triple M DJ? DJ Muzzle of Bees?

I am so pumped for the G Love/JBT show. I bought tickets as soon as I heard. . .

The pessimism of this poster overshadows the lightheartedness of this show. You wanna travel to Chicago on a Saturday, waste a lot more $$ and time on a weak lineup, and be crammed with a bunch of confomists? I think not. Stay local, cheap($27 is cheap in this day and age), and with the scene my friend. Let’s take advantage of this outdoor show, beautiful summer weather, and some good ol’ buds and suds!

  3. Michelle Says:

The other festival is Lollapalooza in Chicago. JBT is playing there on sunday, August 3rd.

you are right! the 5th annual Sugar Maple Traditional Music (sugarmaplefest.org) is that weekend and right down the road.. with a great line up.. of real roots music… its too bad that corporate america is stepping on the little guys toes again. The Sugar Maple Fest is a real music friendly, family friendly little gem of a festival, you should check it out!

Is there a schedule of times for the artists? I would love to come up to see Alejandro Escovedo and hang out for the rest. How long does each act play? Really want to know these kinds of things before I drive 3 1/2 hours to Madison. Where can I find this information?

  6. uwmryan Says:

I have not seen a schedule or set times released yet. I imagine sets will be typical of other festivals, so you could expect a 45 min - 1 hour set from Alejandro.

Does anyone know where the camping is for this? I am acoming from out of town to see G Love but need to know how to tie up these loose ends!

  11. Tiffany Says:

The show is IN Madison, there’s no camping that is real near by that I can think of. Here is a list of county parks with camping in Dane County, http://countyofdane.com/lwrd/parks/park_features/default.asp. The closest would be Lake Farm, but there is a smaller, more local festival going on out there, not sure how many spaces there are.
    Good luck, enjoy the show!

looking forward to the show, i gotta admit that i’m a little dissapointed in the fact that jbt barely gets an hour and glove only 1 1/2 but oh well, i did not go last year and i can’t find any admission rules anywhere. such, as are you able to bring your own chairs in, backpacks with food, just looking for an idea on how this festival is ran, if anyone who went last year could let me know i’d appreciate it.
