Another Update: SoCo Music Experience :: The Roots

Things got a lot more interesting in since posting some of the new additions to this year’s SoCo Music Experience going down again at Willow Island on Saturday, September 6th. Oh, by the way this is a free festival!

MoB has just learned that The Roots will be headlining the SoCo Music Experience stop in Madison, rounding out an already impressive line-up including The Black Keys, GZA, Benevento Russo Duo, and Ha Ha Tonka. More announcements/updates as they arrive.

With that announcement, I’ll ask again. Does this line up do more or less for you than last year? Now would also be a good time for everyone to educate me on their favorite record by The Roots. Discuss.

    Holy Crap. That’s incredible.

Fave record: The Tipping Point. Underrated and (I think) even not well liked by The Roots themselves.

Wow, this thing is stacked! Rumor has it there is one more gnarly act to be added too…

  3. Jam Says:

That is great news! The lineup this year is starting to look fantastic.

Cowboy Mouth pretty much was one of the worst bands I’ve seen in some time at last year’s show.

  4. Paul B Says:

    Awesome…

When I saw them at ACL a few years ago, they were the only hip hop act in the lineup and they out-rocked everyone.

    Captain Kirk is the sh*t!

  5. Tim Says:

@Christopher: I’d respectfully disagree. Tipping Point is their biggest jab at becoming radio friendly and really lacks the neurotic ennui that makes the Roots so seductively exciting. I’d say the latest two albums, especially Game Theory, are their albums that I listen to the most, but Phrenology is a great starter Roots album. Illadelph and Things Fall Apart are excellent to gain some perspective on their development.

    illadelph halflife for sure

I’d say less only because I love The Flaming Lips, but this lineup offers a bit more variety (which is always a good thing).

  8. dan Says:

My vote goes to Things Fall Apart. I’m from Philly and that album feels like Philly the most to me and therefore remains my favorite.

  9. sam Says:

if your underage, how easy is it to get in just for the music. the black keys are my favorite band and i love the roots. i am 16 and live in madison so this kinda sucks

  10. Mark Says:

I’m wondering if they have released details as far as what time the bands will be taking the stage, it’s coming up pretty quickly now and I’d really like to know what time the Black Keys will play so I can plan ahead. Anyone know anything?
