From The Union: Patchwork – “Spaceships”

Patchwork has built a steady foundation of good local support as well as the blogosphere of late. It’s easy to fall in love with Jeremiah Nelson’s sound, and I’ve personally witnessed his transformation into a confidant band leader. Last night he warmed up the UW Terrace stage for Bowerbirds, who were fresh off a few days chillin’ with Bon Iver in Eau Claire.

Below you’ll find a free and legal download of the first single, “Spaceships,” from his upcoming record, Take Me Down the Interstate. A favorite of long-time followers, it’s now ready for those outside the state lines to hear what I consider to be a perfect summer song. Like what you hear? Pick up a copy of the entire album on August 15th.

Also, and with our hat tipped towards our friends at La Blogotheque, I offer a glimpse of Patchwork performing “Spaceships” in a pocket of the UW Terrace with backing noise provided by the police.

Wow “Spaceships” is really great. When’s the album available?

This plus that Forrest Fire album are some of the best stuff I’ve heard in a while, and they’re both free! Woo!

I love how the sirens completely take over in the 2nd vs…

The record will be out on 8/15 but should be available for download in the next few days.

I really like this format. I’m looking forward to more take away shows.

The sirens are there, though probably wouldn’t have been if I would have had my shit together the first time around. Oh well, it was fun. Thanks for being a good sport and playing through it!

I don’t know… I think when it’s like a live ‘one-take’ no editing sort of affair, there’s a cool spontaneity captured on tape…like for instance, me forgetting the entire coda :)

Great song! I think the sirens add a bit of organic reality to it, so not too bad.

This was a ton of fun. I think lap slide is my favorite version of guitar…
