Photos: Fleet Foxes – Terrace, Madison

Last night really felt like summertime, right? Lots of good friends, nice weather, and great music. Big ups to the hard working kids of the WUD Music Committee for making the night special for everyone involved. After being dissatisfied with the sound the previous night during the Bowerbirds set, I arrived at the Terrace with trepidation, worried that Fleet Foxes would face a similar fate. While the sound check was long, it paid off in diamonds by the time those harmonies hit my ears. Their last time through Madison was our introduction to the group, last night was a sign that they’ll always have a stage to play in our city.

The harmonies were definitely on as they tore through selections from the Sun Giant EP and their most recent self titled release. Highlights, boy their were lots of them. Opening with “Sun Giant” brought the chatter to a stop and only resumed when those unfamiliar turned to their attentive neighbors to ask, “who is this band?”

Photos below by our friend and contributor, Ed Oliver. Please leave your thoughts/reviews in the comments. What did you think of the evening’s other performers? Who went home with some Fleet Fox merchandise? How soon can we get them back to Madison?

Fleet Foxes amazed most with their ability to bring those amazing harmonies from their albums to life. It was hard for me to imagine how they could actually be created right in front of my eyes only while listening to the albums. Kudos to them. I also thought Extra Golden was a perfect early evening set. It really felt like summer while listening to them just plain jam. What an awesome evening!

    This band rules.

These guys are my new favorite band. This was the third time I’ve seen ‘em, and they surely did not dissapoint – I felt truely transported with their sublime melodies and perfect harmony. Shout out to WUD Music for a fantastic line up and a solid show.

Agreed – this show was FANTASTIC. Seeing shows at the Union is difficult sometimes with so many there for beer and being social and not giving a damn about the band, but the music had the ability to transport us somewhere else and block out all the drunken drivel. I hope they come back soon.

Wish I’d managed to get tickets to see them in London later this year, all totally sold out now. Did you enjoy the black cab session they did?

Hopefully I’ll get to see them sometime in the next year!

Such an enjoyable show. Their live performance was really outstanding, certainly not a letdown after absorbing such lovely recordings. Plus, a great experience for the band… “It’s like the sky is on fire!” Guess they don’t get fireflies in Washington!
