Several listens into it, and I'm thinking that it'll end up on my year-end Top 20 list for sure. Having not been a fan of the previous Islands releases, I didn't know what to expect. I think it retains Nick Thorburn's unhinged vocal attitiude, but Jim Guthrie adds a down-to-earth folk vibe that'll make this appealing to a larger audience - for better or worse. Try tracks 1, 2, 6, and 9 for highlights - these tend to be the more upbeat tracks, which is not to say that the gentle acoustic moments should be skipped over.
