Bloc Party was the strongest I’ve seen them at this year’s Lollapalooza festival. I guess you have to bring your best if you’re warming up the stage for Radiohead. That performance enhanced my interest in downloading their new record Intimacy, which made itself available this morning for $10 (add another $10 to receive the physical copy on October 28th). Had a listen? Let me know what you think of the record?
Intimacy Track List:
01 Ares
02 Mercury
03 Halo
04 Biko
05 Trojan Horse
06 Signs
07 One Month Off
08 Zephyrus
09 Better Than Heaven
10 Ion Square

Finally got a chance to listen to it. One person I saw said it was horrible and rushed. I don’t think it was rushed at all. It appears they acheived exactly the sound they were going for. It just is a departure from what we were all used to on the last two albums (but the same could be said about A Weekend In The City). The one thing I am a little disappointed about is the used of drum machines. Half of what makes listening to Bloc Party such an experience is listening to the amazing drumming. It has a definite dance party feel to the album and I think that an adjustment in listen to this album is in order, just as it was between the last two.
If there can be one thing said about Bloc Party is that they are consistantly inconsistant with their style. Even though the overall sound stays the same, they find new ways of presenting to the audience. Overall a good listen and I can’t wait to hear the songs they will add to the physical release.
