Guitar geeks and fans of Wilco may have noticed Jeff Tweedy playing a Breedlove guitar in the past. Obviosuly Jeff’s a fan of the craftsmanship, but Breedlove wanted to show their appreciation with the production of 25 Jeff Tweedy Signature Model Guitars. With a price in the $6,000 dollar range, some fans may have to part with their Chicago Cubs tickets in order to afford the asking price. Not affected by the cost and want to check out the look and specifications of the instruments? Head over to Steilberg Strings in Louisville, KY, who have one remaining ax in stock.
Brief Description: “Both Wilco fans and guitar enthusiasts in general should be excited about this guitar: it is built from beautiful solid master-grade Indian Rosewood with a master-grade Red Spruce top in 12-fret OOO body size. Furthermore, it’s got a herringbone rosette and top purfling, an L.R. Baggs M1 pickup, Tweedy designed Honeycomb Inlays in the fingerboard and a Flower and Bees inlay in the headstock. It will be individually signed by Jeff Tweedy and Kim Breedlove. And it will be awesome.”

Unfortunately the one I played sounded pretty bad. That of course has nothing to do with Tweedy, but the guitar was quite aweful for the money. It had no real character to the sound. I have played many other 12 fret guitars for half the price that sounded twice as good. On the other hand it is nice to see Breedlove depart if ever so briefly from their bizarre ideas of what a guitar should be. They have quite possible invented the worlds ugliest bridge.
I feel your money is better spent on a vintage instrument or at least one that will hold its value as time wears on. I just don’t see this model becoming as iconic as the singer himself.
