I found moments of brilliance on Blitzen Trapper’s Wild Mountain Nation, the title track was one of my favorite songs of the year. Their last time through Madison they headlined an early show which featured the bubbling popularity of the Fleet Foxes, who performed such a stunning set that many people (myself included) were too subdued from harmonies to be hit with anything else musical that night.

Sub Pop will release Blitzen Trapper’s fourth record, Furr, later this month on September 23rd. I continue to hear a strong semblance to Wilco with this band’s work. Furr oozes with a cohesion that wasn’t present on its predecessor and makes this upcoming release one of the most exciting of the year. Don’t be surprised to see this record climbing its way onto many year end lists.
