I’d like to publicly congratulate the Lucero guys for their recent signing with Universal Republic Records. News came a couple days back from the Memphis Flyer the that they are “making the leap to the majors, recently signing a four-album deal with Universal/Republic.”
I’m thrilled that a group that’s provided me with many years of musical enjoyment will finally see the exposure and (hopefully) the monetary rewards they deserve that come with this news.

While I am excited for Lucero and hope they do indeed get the monetary rewards they so rightly deserve, I am wary of pretty much any deal with a major at this time in the music biz. I just saw a panel with their manager this afternoon and wish I had known about this then…

Lucero is one of my favorite bands. Now we need Tag or somebody to get them to the High Noon. Perfect venue for them and they would blow the house down. I even called Kathy once and told her about them and she was all for it….it was just that I was supposed to get a demo tape and act like a promoter which I surely am not. Are you out there Tag>

I thought that they were already on Warner’s Independent Label. Isn’t Liberty & Lament part of EastWest, which is part of Warner. It’s been a while since I last saw Dreaming in America but I think that’s the gist of the deal they’d signed.
Regardless, good for them. Maybe Universal will do a better job of promoting the band. And yes, a High Noon show would be a highlight of my year.

I think they may have just had a distribution deal through Warner. Not sure on that though.

Yeah, I re-watched Dreaming in America last night and that’s exactly how they had lined it up. I’ll blame my misrememberance on the fact that it is extremely hard to watch a Lucero doc and not get plastered.
I also now see I could have clicked on the link to the Memphis Flyer and found that out.
