Chicago Bluegrass and Blues Festival

I’ve teamed up with the Chicago Bluegrass and Blues Festival to help promote a day’s worth of music at Chicago’s Congress Theater on Saturday, November 22nd. The line up is anchored with performances by The Avett Brothers, The David Grisman Quintet, Ha Ha Tonka, and more. Plus, the festival is supporting the Saving Tiny Hearts Society.

MoB Ticket Giveaway: We’ve got two (2) passes to giveaway to the MoB faithful. Please drop a comment letting me know some of your favorite bluegrass or blues musicians for a chance at going to the festival on us.

Susan Tedeschi knows how to wail! And I can’t help but dig a little Jonny Lang…

some of my favs actually include the avett bros. i do also enjoy old cowe medicine show, and for a great blend of bluegrass and punk music/attitude similar to ocms, milwaukee’s .357 string band is great.

I have to say that the Avett’s are my favorite band — bluegrass or not — these days. Seen them 6 times in 6 different cities in the last year! #7 is thein 3 week, yahoo!

I like AA Bondy a lot too these days but i’m not sure that he really qualifies as blues or bluegrass.

Should be a great day/night of music with several Chi-town blogs representing as well. It’ll be fun to meet y’all. Just don’t wear any Brewers gear.

(keep me out of contest - I’m also a partner for the event).

Ryan, I sure wish this wasn’t opening hunting weekend. You know I love the Avett Brothers and am a huge Grisman fan. I agree that .357 string band is a good act to catch live. I’ve seen them a few times in Milwuakee and Madison and they play the JackPine Jamboree Festival in Birnamwood, WI every Labor Day weekend! They also played Feel Good Festival in Amherst, WI last year and the year before.

  7. Ryan Says:

The David Grisman Quintet is a real classy act. I saw the Hardly strictly bluegrass festival on ACL the other night and I can’t wait to go to a bluegrass festival right here in town!

I have always loved Chris Thile and anyone he plays with. I also love the Hudsons from Austin, Texas. They are a mix of blues, folk and bluegrass. If you are ever in Austin, check them out at the Waterloo on Thursday nights! EXCELLENT Line up for the entire day!

My two favorites (of the moment) are, in fact, the Avett Brothers and a band I just discovered, Boston-area Crooked Still. They’re playing Nov 1 at the Morse Theater…

  11. kto Says:

Jut back from Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in SF where I caught Bonnie Prince Billy, Mark Olsen and Gary Louris, Jon Langford, Allison Kraus and Robert Plant, Iris Dement, Ralph Stanley, Bad Livers, the Gourds, Greg Brown, Iron and Wine, etc.

The Avett Brothers in Chicago would really complete the show for me.

  12. lauren Says:

ive only recently discovered The Avett Brothers and think they are amazing. Its great to discover a new band you can really sink your teeth into.

Ha Ha Tonka are a great talent, too!

  13. Brad Matthew Says:

Bluegrass: Bela Fleck, Del McCoury, Sam Bush

Blues: Albert King, Muddy Waters, Taj Mahal

Ha Ha Tonka is going to rip Saturday night!
