Return of the Grievous Angel

There are plenty of great Ryan Adams live recordings to mine in your spare time. I can kill hours perusing both the depths of YouTube and the Live Music Archive in search of my Ryan Adams fix. This morning I’ll start you off with one of my favorite songs, penned by Gram Parsons, made famous by its countless adaptations by others since his early and unfortunate exit.

Below, you’ll find Ryan Adams with Emmylou Harris for a gorgeous video version of the song only to be followed (and possibly topped) with another Ryan take on the classic enhanced by the lovely Gillian Welch.

Thanks for that vid. Have you ever heard the compilation of the same name with “modern” interpretations of Parsons’ songs. My son was born to Whiskeytown’s cover of “A Song For You” which will now always have a very special place in my heart.

Beautiful song, I love both of those versions. That whole concert with Ryan Adams and Gillian Welch is killer. God bless the live music archive.
