Smashing Pumpkins Announce 20th Anniversary Tour

The Smashing Pumpkins announced their 20th Anniversary Tour, including four nights in Chicago across two venues. While, I haven’t kept up on the Pumpkins for years, I did spend many hours with Gish, Siamese Dream, and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness back in the day. Because of that, and the close proximity of the aforementioned Chicago shows, I’m contemplating making a trip to the windy city for a night.

What complicates things a little is that each run of two nights promises “that no songs will be repeated” over the course of each “Black Sunshine” and “White Crosses” set. I really don’t want to make the monetary investment to catch two nights, nor do I want to make the wrong decision and end up with an evening of MACHINA/The Machines of God or Zeitgeist “classics.”

Chicago Shows:

Tuesday, November 18 at The Chicago Theatre - “Black Sunshine”
Wednesday, November 19 at The Chicago Theatre - “White Crosses”
Friday, November 21 at The Auditorium Theatre - “Black Sunshine”
Saturday, November 22 at The Auditorium Theatre - “White Crosses”

Tickets:
On Sale: Monday, October 13th @ 10am

I’m a former/current fan, and my favorite SP albums are Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie… in that order. I’d love to make the drive to Chi to see them, but I’m in the same boat as you, Ryan - I’d hate to pick the wrong night and see only their later work.

My favorite Pumpkins album is Adore and I was unaware of the “Black Sunshine” and “White Crosses” set lists until after I ordered my tickets. Of course, I got “Black Sunshine.” So, I’ll see how it goes.

I am listening to Adore for the first time in years. I guess I was definitely still a fan of theirs when this record came out because all these songs are diamonds.

I got tix for the “Black Sunshine” night at the Auditorium Theatre…$65 each ticket, without fees, all the way in the second balcony and the two tix I got are a seat away from each other BAH HUMBUG TICKETMASTER!!!
ANYWAY…I never got to see them live in their “hayday” due to my mother’s hate for Billy Corgan’s voice, and my love of them…so I felt as if I had to buy tickets for this just to fulfill my early teenage yearning to see them…I would have to say I am excited, yet nervous about getting stuck listening to “crap” instead of b-sides from The Aeroplane Flies High boxed set or Gish.
Gish being my favorite album this week (its in my cd player in my car right now) and Pisces Iscariot in a close second, tied with disc two of Mellon Collie.
I think that since I have been a fan for so long, I am in it for the long haul and can’t wait to strain my eyes to see a glimpse of Billy Corgan angrily shouting into a tiny, almost invisible microphone from my nosebleed seats.

Update: I am now going to both shows at Constitution Hall in DC. I think it should cover all the bases.
