Waylon Jennings :: Outlaw Shit

An original outlaw, trailblazer, and country music bad boy, Waylon Jennings helped change country music for the better. I came to know his material through his collaborations with Willie Nelson, and from there grew fond of his no-nonsense approach to both his recordings and the industry itself.

Drop into any small town tavern in rural Wisconsin and you’re sure to hear Jennings’ “Mamas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys” present itself on some old and outdated jukebox. Many forget his role as the narrator for The Dukes of Hazzard and that he also held bass guitar duties for the legendary Buddy Holly. As strong of a presence Waylon was in his own right, he shined most when he opened up the creative process, especially with Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Kris Kristofferson in The Highwaymen.

Later this month Vagrant Records will release Waylon Forever, an “eight-song collection of cover songs and originals feature the vocals of Waylon Jennings backed by his son Shooter Jennings and the .357’s.”

Below, grab a free and legal download of “Outlaw Shit” from the upcoming release, due October 21st.
