It is interesting that you mention the myth about ‘Careful With that Axe Eugene’ regarding Garcia while also mentioning Zabriski Point. Garcia was hired to be the composer for the film – and in fact there are several original songs by Garcia on the soundtrack. Furthermore, those tracks represent some of the only recorded versions of Garcia playing lead guitar against a backing track of his rhythm and lead guitar.

i’ve always been partial to animals and wish you were here, with echoes standing out as my favorite song. i hate to play cliche college stoner, but the sync with 2001 to echoes is pretty dramatic and seems to have at least some merit in the mythology surrounding it.

also, my boss, who represents a (THE) grateful dead cover band just had the end of his finger cut off after using wood chopper. coincidence? i think not.
