Though it’s been four years since The New Year have released a record, their self-titled debut comes as my initial introduction to the band. This record sat amongst a pile of records I knew I needed to get to based on the frequent urgings of many by e-mail. I was, and remain, unfamiliar with Matt and Bubba Kadane’s previous musical output as founding members of Bedhead, but am eager to go digging for that and more by The New Year.
If the recent diminishing temperatures are good for anything, they provide ample isolation perfect for repeated listens of records. Over the past week, I’ve spun the aforementioned self-titled long-player from The New Year every day. I think the album hits its real peak on songs “MMV” and “Seven Days & Seven Nights,” though collectively it’s one of the most refreshing listens of late.
Grab two free and legal MP3’s below from The New Year, whose self-titled record is out now on Touch & Go.
