Again we remember the greatness of Otis Redding, who tragically passed away 41 years ago in Madison. Take the time to watch the video above. If you’re looking to add some Otis to your collection, you can do no wrong with the double-disc offering, Otis Blue: Otis Redding Sings Soul or Live in London and Paris – both released this year, both essential listening as far as I’m concerned.

Great video – Otis give the gritty Stax treatment to the classic Motown tune. And with the mighty Bar-Kays backing him up! Otis belongs on the Mount Rushmore of Great Singers, and this is a perfect video showing why – the consumate showman with a hellava voice. And since it is the holiday season, I invite your readers to dig Otis and his version of the Charles Brown classic “Merry Christmas, Baby” (by the by, Elvis did a version more in the slow blues style of the Brown original):
