I’m looking over the updated list of confirmed/unconfirmed acts at SXSW (thanks Done Waiting) and there are three (3) Madison bands representing. Absinthe Minds, Dead Luke, and Zola Jesus will all be representing Madison in Austin mid-March.
Milwaukee’s Alash is currently the sole 414 representative.

Big Fun is an AWESOME Milwaukee band that will be in Austin for SXSW and playing an SXSW party with Chicago band Terrior Bute.

Somewhat belated, but wanted you to know Alash, the Tuvan throat singers featured at South by Southwest are performing in Milwaukee tonight, April 6 at BayShore Lutheran Church, 1200 E. Hampton in Whitefish Bay They are based in Central Asia in the Republic of Tuva, but have a 414 area code since their American-born translator manager is from Milwaukee. Milwaukee is their American base so their American cell phone is from there. Check out alashensemble.com for samples of the music and an explanation of Tuvan throat singing, which involves producing multiple tones with one voice.
