Weinland :: Breaks In The Sun

My history with Portland, Oregon’s Weinland runs deep. In 2006, they were going by the name John Weinland, put out one helluva record, Deversville, and followed it up with last year’s La Lamentor. Both remarkable, both come with my highest recommendation. I begged them to play in Madison last year, but only succeeded in getting them an early show at the High Noon Saloon opening for the Silos. The few that showed up were wowed, and I ended up shooting a very lo-fi video of them performing in the back of their van in the parking lot after the show. Good times. They proved to be just as fine of human beings as they are musicians.

Here we are in 2009, and I’m once again trading e-mails with Weinland’s Adam Shearer. They’ve got a new album, Breaks In The Sun, complete with the stunning cover art above, readied for release May 5th on Badman Recording Co. I cold write an essay on why you need to own all of Weinland’s albums, especially this new one, but right now I’m just going to let you enjoy these first two tracks below as your introduction to another damn fine release from our friends in PDX.
