Today marks the release date of Morrisey’s Years of Refusal. When we reviewed it last month, Pete rightfully noted that the album “keeps offering gem after gem.” This month, Morrissey will begin the US leg of his world tour that includes rare intimate club dates.

Favorite album: Your Arsenal

My favorite album would have to be Viva Hate. Not only because its a solid album but also because of the “argument” that leads in to Ryan Adams Heartbreaker. The only time I saw him was in Milwaukee in December early 05 ish.

I will second the Ringleader of the Tormentors, great album. I’ve yet to see him live, which I hope to fix someday soon.

I would have to say my favorite Morrissey show was
when he was with the Smiths and they played at the PAC
in Milwaukee in August of 86. I met the Moz out front before the show,
he signed my copy of an Oscar Wilde book.

Before I really even knew about the Smiths, there was Bona Drag. I’ve listened to it more than any other MOZ related music.

Favorite album: Viva Hate, for sure.

Best record: Vauxhall & I

I bought “Southpaw Grammar” used at the Princeton Record Exchange back in January and have been enjoying it since. “Boy Racer” and “Reader Meet Author” are some fast favorites.

You Are the Quarry

“Your Arsenal” is definitely my favorite. But “You Are the Quarry” is pretty hard to beat.

Definitely Viva Hate for me

Quarry…I saw Moz on this tour and the Show got me hooked on his live shows!

Best MOZ album: Bona Drag. Best MOZ show, Milwaukee 05 when my friend snagged a piece of his shirt (which is still in a Ziploc bag and still smells like man-sweat and cologne.)

Vauxhall and I and then You are the Quarry.
I saw Morrissey when he was at the Rave in Fall of 04. Great mix of solo work and Smiths classics.

Of his solo albums; Vauxhall and I, ahead by a length.
With the Smiths; The Queen is Dead, but it’s close.

I saw Morrissey in Seattle in the height of the grunge movement. He was a bit out of his element and when people started throwing boots and beer at the stage rather than roses he stormed off in the biggest diva moment I’ve seen in my concert going career. I don’t know if it was a good show but it was certainly memorable.

Viva Hate is my favorite Morrissey album. I love it when Ryan Adams is heard arguing about it at the beginning of Heartbreaker. Morrissey is fabulous and I would love to be entered in the drawing for his new disc. Thanks so much MOB!

Southpaw Grammar is my favorite, and I know I’m in the minority.
Best live show by Mozzer was The Riverside 1992 for the Your Arsenal tour. Best live show I have ever seen, actually.

Smiths, Milwaukee 86, The Queen Is Dead tour:
Fantastic set and got an autograph from the Moz as he exited the tour bus on his way into the gig. At this point he was the Messiah in the British press.
Solo, Nov 2007, Chicago Aragon:
One off show, the place was packed, and there air bristled with energy.
When they played Irish Blood, English Heart it was amazing. After that song ended, goosebumps were on many arms and necks, and the crowd roar was deafening.

Your Arsenal!

Viva Hate is my favorite solo album
February 16th, 2009 at 9:32 pm
“Your Arsenal” I was 15yrs old when it came out and it blew me away. I even got to see him during that tour…. amazing! There isn’t a bad song on that album!

I can’t believe there are people who will admit they like You Are The Quarry! I wouldn’t even admit to listening to it more than once! Dreadful record! My favorite Moz record is any of them except that god-awful excuse for music. And I went to see him somewhere in Cleveland while I was in college, which was way, way back when I still thought it was acceptable for a man to be ambiguous about his sexuality. Fortunately we both grew out of that, huh?

Fave Moz is You Are the Quarry (who does not love a comeback?) with Viva Hate a close second.
I still have not seen a solo show, but will might drag myself to the Rave this time. But I too was at that PAC show in ’86. Good times!

Vauxhall and I for sure fav Moz album.

Favorite album: Viva Hate, gotta love Vini Reilly!
Saw M in Milwaukee at the Rave a few years back. Great show and his performance of Shoplifters was amazing!

Fave Moz platter: Vauxhall & I.
For me, the Eagles Ballroom show a few years ago was better than the Riverside show from maybe 2 summers ago.
That dude goes through a lot of shirts.
