The return of the 1990′s continues with the announcement that the Meat Puppets will perform The Annex in Madison on Friday, May 29th.
That’s pretty exciting but I’m most excited that Madison gets a date with Dark Meat, who’s opening the show along with the Retribution Gospel Choir. Not familiar with Dark Meat? Please watch this video. I don’t know how all these people will fit on the Annex stage, but I’m looking forward to seeing it.

I caught the Felice Brothers set in Austin last week. They pulled out Elton John and Townes Van Zandt covers to end their set. It was, of course, awesome. We’re no strangers in loving all things from The Felice Brothers and we count their upcoming record, Yonder Is The Clock as one of our most anticipated releases of the year. NPR has been providing a steady diet of great musical goodness lately. Today, you can hear Leonard Cohen’s new album, Live in London, in its entirety, on NPR Music.
I’m hoping to be in the crowd for either of Leonard Cohen’s Chicago Theatre shows on May 5th & 6th. Anyone got their tickets yet?

I caught the Ben Harper and Relentless7 Austin City Limits taping while in Austin last week, which should air later this year (October). It was a good first listen to the material that will make up their new album, White Lies For Dark Times, due May 5th on Virgin Records. Tour dates have been rounded out, including a Chicago stop. You can expect to hear lots of new material, some vintage but rocking Harper back catalog, and most likely a Zeppelin cover.
