I've heard boots of the currently "rejuvinated" Dead. They are awful. They should have left it what it was and not ruin the good name of Grateful Dead. Maybe they aren't Grateful anymore, just Dead. I wouldn't use a free ticket to go see them.

@Ryan:
Correct. And if any one is interested in hearing a version of Hard to Handle that will make you never want to hear the Crow's version (no disrespect), check out the version from 8/6/71. You will not be disappointed.

They were flat in Albany, with Bob visibly and audibly chafing at Warren Haynes' very un-Jerry-like flights of noodly blues fancy. The show was a solid C-minus. Stay home, fire up, and throw on the Eugene, OR '78 show to clear your head.

Szabe - I think some of the venue selections (Allstate included) are a little suspect. Honestly, I think they would have fared better had they waited till summer to hit the road. That being said the recordings I've heard Charlottesville (4/15) and Wilkes-Barre (4/22) both sounded great.

"By all accounts the band is hitting on all cylinders and getting along nicely with Warren Haynes on guitar/vocals."

By all accounts I've heard -- reading a few message boards and talking to a few friends -- they sound completely uninspired and unrehearsed; they look bored, and they've been spotted feuding on stage; most of the audience is sitting down, chatting, or texting for much of the show, because the music is so bad. I hope the AllState shows are great, but anyone who's thinking about going should be aware that, by many people's standards, they're risking shelling out $100 for a dud of a show.

The Grateful Dead were covering Otis Redding's "Hard to Handle" over 20 years before the Black Crowes recorded it.
