Madison Concert Announcement: Throw Me The Statue

I’ve been a fan of Secretly Canadian artist Throw Me The Statue since first hearing their 2008 release, Moonbeans. It ended up being one of my favorite albums of last year, with “Lolita” also cracking our list of 50 favorite songs from last year.

I am super excited for the follow up, Creaturesque, coming August 4th. In support of the new album, the band is hitting the road, including a stop at the Annex in Madison on Friday, August 28th with The Brunettes. At least the shitty venue is offset by the bargain price of $8.

Download “Ancestors” off the upcoming album below. I’m betting on another MoB favorite from the sounds of it.

The biggest surprise for me about this announcement is that The Brunettes are opening- they’re amazing. I just hope they don’t play too much from Structure and Cosmetics.

Crane Your Swan Neck/National Beekeepers Society/Murder By Death sounded great at The Annex last time I went. I think it might be a good fit for this bill as well. I mean, obviously, places like the Barrymore are probably always going to be preferrable but sometimes I like shows to be a bit more personal. So to sum up, I’ve been to a lot worse venues than the annex and that bill sounds really good.
I might come down for this one.

The Annex is a great sounding room; its vibe is not the same as High Noon’s, by a long shot, but the PA is fine, as good as High Noon’s and, arguably better than other venues in town.

To be honest, the sound of the venue never factored into my opinion of the place. It feels like and uninviting place, the staff is usually non-existent/rude, and it’s just not the impression of the city that I’d like bands to associate Madison with. That being said, I realize that space is evaporating so we must make good use of what we’ve got.

I’d definitely agree with the non-existant staffing bit, and it having a weird vibe. I think the only time I ran into staff was at the ticket counter. Otherwise I ran into the bands playing more than the staff which was kind of cool and really puzzling. If I had to rank the Madison venues I’d been to it’d probably come in around 3rd or 4th.

The Madison Concert by Throw Me The Statue is quite promising. They are truly becoming famous. Thanks for the announcement.
