“There are too many rules in punk rock. Too many rules in country music. We’re hard headed and…god damn if we don’t do things the way we want to do them.” – Ben Nichols
Lucero’s new album, 1372 Overton Park, is out October 6th. Today, you can stream “The Devil and Maggie Chascarillo” (Love and Rockets comics) at the Lucero website. As promised, there are horns, keys, and a very full sound. I loved the track when I heard it live and can say that the studio version comes off even better.
Have a listen and drop a comment with what you think about the track.

Why are there horns, Ben? Why are there horns!?

That song has really grown on me, especially after my first impression that it sounded like Thin Lizzy. Will be nice to hear everything done in the studio after so many of these songs have been on live recordings lately.

That song makes working on Friday afternoon suddenly bearable. I love everything about it.

Lot’s of production….doesn’t even sound like Ben to me. That’s not to say I don’t like it after one listen. How come these guys have never come to Madison? They would be a perfect fit at the High Noon. I even called Kathy one day and told her about them….she told me to send some demo tapes and stuff. How could we get them here? I kind of know Tag….hmmm.

Eric – I’ve asked those guys in person, pleased with their manager, e-mailed, and they’ve still not played Madison. It’s gotta happen sometime, right?

Yes, and thanks for trying! Are you now at the Pabst? Maybe I got the wrong Ryan….if you are the same one I met you in S Disc’s one day. You had a Bon Iver shirt on and I had a 16 Horsepower…remember Tag even came in that day? Funny….hey…keep working on the Lucero bill!
