Photos: MadFork – Terrace, Madison

Last night the UW Union Terrace hosted a number of bands scheduled to play this weekend’s Pitchfork Music Festival. The line-up of Yeasayer, Ponytail, Cymbals Eat Guitars, The Antlers, and The Dutchess and the Duke was amazing and the price (free) was impossible to beat.

Ed Oliver was in attendance, bring back some stellar shots. By his report,
Ponytail got real crazy” though Yeasayer “took it up another notch” drop a comment and let us know what your highlights were.

I’m sad I missed this, but I’d already gotten tix to The National – and despite a late start, and a mediocre opening band – The National ended up putting on the best set I’ve ever seen. So it wasn’t too much of a loss for me I guess.

yeasayer took a little less than 40 minutes to start playing… they started around 10:50 and could only play till 11:45 or so. 40 minutes?? That’s ridiculous.

ponytail is possibly one of the greatest live bands around. I think it pumped me up a little too much for the more laid back Yeasayer, who in my opinion could not upstage ponytail.

I wasn’t all that into Ponytail personally. They were fun, and a good band but every now and then I like syllables and/or lyrics to come out of the frontperson. Granted, I hadn’t heard their stuff at all, but I got pretty bored pretty quick with the girl bouncing around and yelling like a Pokeman character the entire time…

I thought the show overall was good, but it seemed like Yeasayer was in quite a hurry to get done.

LOL @ “bouncing around and yelling like a Pokeman character the entire time”

  7. Patrick Says:

shows have to end at midnight on the Terrace so that would explain why Yeasayer may have seemed to play a shorter set.

  8. Trubes Says:

10:50 –> 11:45 = 55 minutes….? played same set length and songs (different order) at pitchfork the next day so no need to feel gypped.

  9. Ethan Says:

thats just racist truby. how was 2.o compared to 1.o

  10. Riley Says:

Ponytail just got in the way, like when your long hair gets in the way and you conveniently tie it behind your head, unless you’re Steven Seagal of course. They should split up and call themselves the Pigtails.
