Muzzle of Bees is proud to present the fantastic triple bill of Portugal. The Man, Hockey, & Drug Rug at the Majestic Theatre in Madison. Earlier this week I waxed on my recent admiration of The Satanic Satanist.
In order to get the event off the ground we’re giving away two (2) pairs of tickets to the Muzzle of Bees faithful. To enter, drop a comment with your favorite lead singer/vocalist. We’ll select our winners at random and notify them by e-mail.

I have to go with Eddie Vedder. His baritone voice paired with poetic lyrics keeps him a favorite for me.

Dave Gahan- I’d be lying to myself if I said otherwise.

It’s gotta be Stevie.

Ted Leo, no question!

Julian Casablancas. He can scream, he can croon, he can mumble, he can soar. Great lyricist to boot!
Liz Phair is a close second.
Morrissey third.

Camille – she can go from shotgun weirdness to beatboxing to classical falsetto croons at the click of a finger. So inventive, never dull.

(Oops, forgot to put not to enter me into the competition. Cornwall to Madison is a tad far. Just wanted to weigh in.)

Erika Wennerstrom hands down!!

Gotta be Craig Finn from the Hold Steady. Manic and rambly, shouty and poetic. Brilliant.

To quote my second favorite in this category (Will Sheff) from one of his old Austin Chronicle articles – “NICK FUCKING CAVE.”
There seems to be a common thread of darkness and brutal honesty running through my top 5 – a list I composed according to this decade about two months ago.
Craig Finn (Hold Steady)
Hutch Harris (Thermals)
Yoni Wolf (Why?)
Will Sheff (Okkervil River)
Nick Cave (Bad Seeds, Grinderman)

Beck Hansen-Not much he can’t do!

I’m gonna go with Jim Morrison for his excellent lyrics, voice, and general good ol’ debauchery.

Has to be Van Morrison. He can literally do it all. Dude has God-given plugin effects. “Beside You,” Astral Weeks? Sounds like there was a tightjeans nerdglasses kid with a Macbook cutting up his vocals. Nope. Just pipes.

Jim James. Obviously.

Liam Gallagher
