Video: Yo La Tengo – “Here To Fall”

One of my most anticipated albums of the year is Yo La Tengo’s Popular Songs arriving September 7th on Matador. If the above video for “Here To Fall” is any indication of what the record holds, I’ll be a very happy fan.

Discuss: What are your favorite Yo La Tengo records?

  1. Tix Says:

    I love Electr-o-Pura.

  2. Dan Says:

Not a bad record in their catalog, but these are my favorites.
    Top 5:
    Painful
I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One
    President Yo La Tengo
    May I Sing With Me
I am Not Afraid Of You…

  3. uwmryan Says:

My favorite is “I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One” and, though not a favorite by many others, “Summer Sun.” It was the first record of theirs I got, so it became my benchmark and starting point.

  4. Rock & Roll Ghost Says:

Don’t have one. Dislike this band. Bored to tears by everything I’ve heard and I’ve given them a fair shake.

  5. brian Says:

Electr-o-Pura, for sure. Blue line swinger! Fave live show was the Bowery Ballroom NYC on the tour for and then nothing turned itself inside out.

  6. uwmryan Says:

Alright, I gotta give props to “And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out” – that rounds out my top 3.

  7. Joseph Says:

Shocked…no one has mentioned Fakebook yet?

Painful was for years and years my favorite, but Electropura has been played more than anything else for the last few months.

  8. Pete Says:

I can’t choose one, but I can choose three. They constantly fluctuate with me in terms of an actual favorite, so I would say that overall it is a tie.

    Painful
    Electr-o-Pura
I Can Hear the Heart Beating As One

  9. Satisfied75 Says:

For various reasons it is a 3-way tie.

Electr-o-Pura – 1st album I heard, therefore near and dear.
I Can Hear the Heart Beating As One – Epic is scope.
Fakebook – Most breezy, enjoyable, listen. A summer record.

  10. George Says:

I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One.

Without a doubt. One of my favorite records ever.

  11. matthew Says:

I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One. Most solid album from beginning to end. Top Track: Stockholm Syndrome …pop gold.

  12. Justin Says:

I am still a Yo La Tengo rookie. I got I Am Not Afraid… when it came out and listened to it a few times before forgetting about it. A few months ago I gave it another spin and got hooked. Just grabbed I Can Hear the Heart… last weekend and am loving it.

  13. Andrew Says:

I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One is a timeless record that will always sound ahead of its time. Electr-o-Pura has probably their best songs with “Tom Courtenay”, “Blue Line Swinger”, “Pablo and Andrea” and “Decora”. i Am Not Afraid Of You…slays as well.

Some blog compared “Here to Fall” to Scott Walker. It definitely makes sense especially Scott Walker’s pretty/nightmarish tracks on the Walker Brothers’ Nite Flights or Climate of Hunter.

  14. drew Says:

Tough call but it has to be ‘painful’. Go listen to nowhere near and tell me different.

  15. Unknown Joe Says:

“And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out”

Not necessarily their best collection, song for song, but considered as a whole album, the emotional and stylistic identity make it my favourite album.

  16. Dan Says:

We used to play Summer Sun each time we had an open house when selling our condo. It worked. 2 offers on the same day!

  17. Mike Says:

Painful for sentimental reasons as it was my first and it just blew me away.
Electr-o-Pura probably gets played more than any other.
The Sounds of the Sound of Science is just so cool.
