I saw him when he played in the Catacombs, just after Greetings from Michigan came out. It was fabulous, but it was just him solo.

  2. Kyle Says:

I was there too! Fantastic show, as I’m sure this one will be.

  3. Jeremy Says:

I was there also. I remember that it took some coaxing to get him out on stage…I didn’t know if the show was actually going down for a minute there. Such a good time, though.

  4. uwmryan Says:

The show I was referencing was at a church that adjoined the catacombs with band. He had a full band that came out for an encore of the Star Spangled Banner clad in all white t-shirts.

I think it was around 2002 or 2003.

  5. jamie Says:

that full band show had to be late 2003 or 2004. michigan came out in 2003 (and i saw him right when that record first popped up on pfork)…

  6. Ryne Says:

The full band show was 11/19/2004. The solo show was 2003 I believe.

I’ always trying to map out Denison Witmer and Sufjan in Madison/Milwaukee, including their CD releases. Here’s what I got; please correct:
    Safe Away (DW) 1998
    A Sun Came (SS) 1999
    River Bends EP (DW) 1999
    Enjoy Your Rabbit (SS) 2001
The 80s EP (DW) April 2001
Denison Witmer at the Catacombs (Date?)
Of Joy and Sorrow (DW) Sept 25, 2001
Denison Witmer Live CD (DW) 2002
Denison live at the Catacombs, Sept 14, 2002 (I just found this date today listed on another artist’s history site)
Philadelphia Songs (DW) Sept 24, 2002
    Recovered (DW) June 10, 2003
Greetings from Michigan (SS) July 1, 2003
Sufjan and Denison live at the Catacombs , solo acoustic shows, September 2003 (I actually found a promo poster for this concert at Nottingham co-op in Madison, I’ll have to dig it out for exact date)
Seven Swans (SS) March 16, 2004
The River Bends and Flows into the Sea (DW), May 18, 2004
2004-2005: Denison Witmer lives in Madison, writing songs for Are You a Dreamer? album.
Spring 2005: Denison leaves Madison to tour as bass player in Sufjan’s Michigan Militia. Not sure of the Madison concert date, probably the show referred to above (by uwmryan) at the Catacombs.

Are You a Dreamer (DW) July 26, 2005

Denison Witmer at Goodman Comm. Center July 9, 2009
Denison Witmer at Forward Music Fest Sept 17-18-19 2009(which date not confirmed yet)
Sufjan Stevens at The Majestic Sept 28, 2009

There are also Denison concerts on the West side of Madison– place and date unknown, and at the Onoopa Brewing Company in Milwaukee, date unknown. I didn’t discover Denison or Sufjan until December 2005, so I’m working from other peoples recollections for the most part. Set lists for all the Denison shows I attended are at his website in the forum section, labeled “set lists”, site address is happybirthdaydenison.com — Nick at Shakti Books

  8. Nick Kokoshis Says:

The Nov. 11, 2005 show mentioned by Ryne doesn’t jive with my schedule, but I’m not doubting it as all my pre-2006 info is second hand.

  9. Nick Kokoshis Says:

Ooops. Make that Nov. 19, 2004 for full-band Michigan Militia tour.

  10. Brady Says:

man, I wanted to go to that show at the chapel so badly. i was in a high school play at the time and couldn’t make it, haha. My mom and stepdad ended up going and despite being a little weirded out by the opening act, the said it was amazing.

okay, another Sufjan sob story – I went to Chicago to see him at the Metro for the Illinoise tour and my 17-and-11-month ass couldn’t get into the 18+ show…I should probably go to this now that I’m all grown up.

  11. Scott Says:

Tickets are now going onsale Saturday morning at 9:00 AM.

  12. Tag Says:

    How much?

  13. Sarah Says:

    Sold out already :(
