MP3: Lucero – “Smoke”

lucero

It’s hard to believe that Lucero’s upcoming album, 1372 Overton Park (October 6th, Universal Republic) is the group’s seventh full length album. Seems like only yesterday we were learning about these guys and falling in love with their live shows. Though the formula has remained pretty steady over the course of their catalog, this new album does polish up the guys a little bit, adding unobtrusive horns here and there and making songs more radio friendly. That’s not a bad thing, in fact, I get excited every time I hear their new single, “Smoke” in rotation on the local dial.

If you’ve already pre-ordered the album, you’ve probably gotten a pretty good feel for the album’s sound. We already discussed “The Devil and Maggie Chascarillo” and we’re now able to offer a download of “Smoke,” so enjoy:

Milwaukee fans can catch Lucero live at Turner Hall Ballroom on Thursday, October 22nd. We’ll see you there.

Discuss: What do you think of the new album tracks thus far? What are your favorite Lucero albums and songs?

I have to say I am not a fan of the horns. As for Lucero, my favorite is and always will be Tennessee.

  2. freeman Says:

Tennessee for sure. Nights Like These and When You’re Gone are my favorite songs

I’ve always been a big Tennessee fan, too. I can’t tell you how many nights that album has gotten me through working the graveyard shift at work. Oh, the air guitars that have been played to “last song”… *sighs*

I like the horns, I like ‘em a lot! “Sixes and Sevens” is maybe my favorite off the sampler, but I like the whole thing through and through. I think it’s the perfect mix of the old and new Lucero sound.

My favorite album as of now is Rebels, Rogues. That may change in a month.

  7. Chris Says:

The new album is great. Different, as all Lucero albums are, but great.

Smoke just could be their best opening track ever. Love the horns. Subtle on every track but ‘Maggie’, where I could do without them.

Props to Lucero. Another job well done.
