Saw you guys in Madison thinking I was just going to see Langhorne Slim and I have been listening to you guys non-stop ever since (I was the nerd that had you guys all sign the vinyl!)

I'm also so glad to hear a band mention the Dead as a strong influence. American Beauty and Workingman's Dead are some of the best albums ever created. They (and Phish IMO) are frequently dismissed like you mentioned. Coincidentally, I just picked up the vinyl for Graceland the day before your concert for $3. You guys have truly done an amazing job of creating a meaningful sound that is completely your own. I'm looking forward to listening to some of the other albums listed I don't know!

man these guys are really the effin coolest and most approachable musicians. dawes is really worth keeping a tab on. when your an "indie rock" band, it takes a lot of courage to admit that the dead are in your top influential records. i think their importance to American folk/roots rock is too often undermined. if i was in a band the GD is one comparison and influence i would be proud to be given. all the luck to dawes. see ya at the next show!
