On Monday night I traveled to Madison to the High Noon Saloon for what to this point has been my favorite show of the year. It’s early I know, but watching A.A. Bondy peel back the layers of his songs in concert is a privilege I don’t let pass me by. His songs, on album, are now an outline ready to be filled in night after night. There’s feedback and reverb, the songs benefit from the full band treatment.
Today, our friends at Daytrotter offer up an encore session with Bondy. If you’re looking to hear the songs in new light and arrangement, please check it out.

This is for sure one of the best daytrotter sessions I have ever heard. Love that ‘Slow Parade’ is almost 8 minutes long. Never heard ‘The Coal Hits the Fire’ with that ending – makes it even better. And ‘When the Devil’s Loose’ with that guitar is amazing. Great stuff right here. Listen to it with headphones on.

I still can’t shake how great Monday night was. I’m still devouring this Daytrotter session and pouring over youtube clips. I love the electric forms these songs have morphed into.

First time I’ve seen AA and I was impressed – great show, great songs. Absolutely LOVE the noise and distortion – a whole other layer of sound and brilliance. Those of you that plan on watching ‘Friday Night Lights’ on NBC will enjoy “Killed Myself When I Was Young” round about episode 8.
