I have a handful of trusted music sources that I rely on for great music recommendations. These come word of mouth, text, in person, and via blog posts. I’d say I get more quality recommendations from Frank at Chromewaves than almost anyone else on the internet. His praise and posting about The Wilderness of Manitoba drew me in and had me searching the depths of the internet to uncover all their output I could.
The band hails from Toronto and Ontario, Canada. Their sound will be a welcomed listen to those that call themselves fans of Horse Feathers or Bowerbirds. We’re pleased to premiere the song “Orono Park” from the forthcoming Summer Fires EP (due 3/22) and which will also leads off their full-length due later this year.

From Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Ontario’s the province. Great sound for sure by Manitoba and great blog. I come here everyday and have found some real undiscovered gems. Keep it up!

Ryan, saw these guys @ the Mercury Lounge not too long ago. Really compelling live show.

Very nice lp. I hear a lot of David Crosby/Graham Nash in their sound mixed with the Fleet Foxes and Vetiver grooves. Sea Song is my Fave

Yeah, i found these by chance quite a while ago, i think during a heavy myspace session – those days are long gone! – where i was just clicking from band friend to band friend and somehow came across them. Thought they were just great from the start, a band i really believed in, and straight away was sending tweets to guys like Phil Waldorf & Simon Raymonde from labels such as Bella Union, Dead Oceans, Jagjaguwar, Secretly Canadian etc, just in case i had a ‘find’ here, haha.
Anyway, I think the music’s gorgeous. And Bowerbirds & Horse Feathers are definitely a couple of the bands i would put in there with ‘em, with Fleet Foxes, too, for the harmonies, obviously.
I think i mentioned them on here just a couple of weeks ago, too, in a comment, but i don’t think the comment went up. Think it was for the James Vincent McMorrow post. Felt there were similarities in their sound, moreso on their LP records than their work i’d heard before, i guess from the bump up in production.
I think i might go have me an old-time myspace marathon and try to find something new again! I just get everything from various blogs these days so nothing really feels like a ‘discovery’ anymore. Know what i mean?
Whilst i’m here, anyway, one of my favourite finds on myspace, from years ago, is a guy named Will Cookson. I won’t say anything more, but the guy’s music is an absolute heart-warming delight and still nobody hardly knows him whatsoever. His record, Songs For A Sunday, remains one of my extremely few, secret little gems of mine. So glad i have that record.
