MP3: Alejandro Escovedo – “Street Song”

Posted on Tuesday 18 May 2010

As big fans of Alejandro Escovedo, we’re pretty excited for his new album Street Songs Of Love (due June 29th). We recently caught Alejendro at the High Noon Saloon in Madison where he debuted several songs from the forthcoming record. Below, is a download of “Street Song,” which was co-written with Chuck Prophet.

Look for Alejandro Escovedo to make his first encore appearance on Austin City Limits television series later this year. Until then, he’s on tour and is a can’t miss live.

Alejandro Escovedo :: Live at Club Tavern (March 4, 1998)

Posted on Friday 30 January 2009

Alejandro Escovedo

I’m on a huge Alejandro Escovedo kick. I’ve not only been enjoying the recent, but also dusting off my copies of A Man Under the Influence, Bourbonitis Blues, and More Miles Than Money: Live 1994-96. Those are all worthy additions to any record collection. Today I wanted to share one of my favorite live shows in my collection. It’s Alejandro Escovedo performing at the Club Tavern in Middleton, WI. While the Club Tavern is just about spitting distance from my house, it’s not known as a regular destination for live music in and around Madison, thought they do get their gems, and usually get them before anyone else will take the chance.

MP3: Alejandro Escovedo Covers Bowie & The Stones

Posted on Tuesday 16 December 2008

Alejandro Escovedo

I’ve been on a steady diet of Alejandro Escovedo’s Real Animal as I begin finalizing my year end list of favorite records. Last week I shared Alejandro’s take on the Velvet Underground classic “Pale Blue Eyes.” Yesterday, with thanks to Largehearted Boy, I was directed to Alejandro Escovedo’s performance at The Troubadour in West Hollywood from September 9th, 2008.

Seeing that the show closes with a cover of The Rolling Stones “Best Of Burden” (an all-time favorite song of mine) I just had to share that, along with the David Bowie cover below.

Video: Alejandro Escovedo – “Pale Blue Eyes” (Paris)

What a treasure the above video is. Alejandro Escovedo and his string quintet perform an acoustic encore of the Lou Reed/Velvet Underground classic at la Java in Paris.

Below, the same cover, captured in audio, from “House concert at Drew’s place” in Ringwood, New Jersey on September 17th, 2006.

Alejandro Escovedo Preps “Live Animal”

Posted on Thursday 23 October 2008

Alejandro Escovedo

I’ve sadly missed Alejandro Escovedo each time through Madison this year. I did see him open for Springsteen, but would have loved to have heard him within the welcoming confines of the High Noon Saloon.

On November 11th, Alejandro Escovedo will release a live EP, Live Animal, featuring tracks like “Always A Friend,” “Sister Lost Soul,” “People (We’re Only Gonna Live So Long),” and “Real As An Animal.” All tracks on Live Animal were recorded live in New York City at the Sirius Satellite Radio studios.
