Thursday News

Posted on Thursday 1 December 2011

I caught Wilco’s Austin City Limits taping last night. Some of my Instagram pics here and here. Was a great set that had them digging back into their catalog as much as they gave attention to their new album, The Whole Love. The highlight of the night was Nick Lowe’s guest appearance for an collaborative jam on his own “Cruel To Be Kind” to close out the evening. Brooklyn Vegan has photos from the show.

Heartless Bastards will release their new album, Arrow on Partisan Records next year. Head over to Hear Ya for a stream of the first song, “Parted Ways.”

New York Times lists The 10 Best Books of 2011.

Bon Iver received 4 Grammy nominations for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist, Best Alternative Music Album.

Bowerbirds have a new album next year. Get details and the first album track for download at Pitchfork.

NPR offers their 100 Quintessential Jazz Songs.

Tonight come see Crooked Fingers and Strand of Oaks at the Mohawk in Austin.

We’re once again joining forces with the fine folks that make up the WUD Music Committee by bringing MoB favorites the Bowerbirds to the University of Wisconsin’s Der Rathskeller on Friday, March 27th. The Bowerbirds’ Hymn For a Dark Horse was one of our favorite records of 2007.

This is another free show that includes support from Eau Claire’s Amble Down Records: The Daredevil Christopher Wright and The Wars of 1812. Everything gets underway at 8:30, we’ll see ya there!

Tuesday’s Gold: What We Recommend #62

Posted on Tuesday 17 June 2008

Each Tuesday stop by Muzzle of Bees for our recommended purchases for the week. Here are the albums we suggest for the release date of June 17th:

Artist: Silver Jews
Album: Lookout Mountain, Lookout Sea
Label: Drag City
Myspace: Silver Jews
Video: Silver Jews – “I’m Getting Back Into Getting Back Into You”
MoB: I can still remember everything about the Silver Jews show at the High Noon Saloon a few years back. I remember where I stood, watching as he shuffled through lyric sheets, and walking by David Berman on the way into the venue. It was a great show, one I honestly never thought I’d see. Thanks to some friends, I’ve gotten well-acquainted with David Berman and an insightful look into the new album.

Artist: Wolf Parade
Album: At Mount Zoomer
Label: Sub Pop
Myspace: Wolf Parade
MP3: Wolf Parade – “Language City”
MP3: Wolf Parade – “Call It A Ritual”
Video: Wolf Parade – “Modern World”
MoB: The dueling voices we love so much free themselves from their equally impressive side projects to provide a blistering follow up to their brilliant debut Apologies to the Queen Mary. This nine-song collection will monopolize your ears calling for repeated listens. I cannot wait to hear these songs live.

Artist: Bowerbirds
Album: Hymns for a Dark Horse
Label: Dead Oceans
Myspace: Bowerbirds
MP3: Bowerbirds – “In Our Talons”
Video: Bowerbirds – “My Oldest Memory”
Upcoming: 7/17 – Bowerbirds – UW Terrace, Madison
MoB: 5 Questions with Bowerbirds
MoB: One of my favorite releases from last year receives its official release via Dead Oceans today, including two new tracks. An absolute must have for your collection, and don’t miss them on their upcoming tour!
