Madison Concerts: The Antlers & Horse Feathers

Posted on Tuesday 16 February 2010

Two of our favorite bands have April dates scheduled at the High Noon Saloon in Madison. The Antlers, whose 2009 release, Hospice, was one of our top ten albums of last year will play on Sunday, April 18th at 8pm. Tickets are $12 with Phantogram opening.

The Antlers will be opening for The National on the east coast. Those dates along with the rest of their tour can be found here.

Horse Feathers are no strangers to this site or to playing Madison. Having released two albums we absolutely adored, they’re back in town on Wednesday, April 21st. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 day of show. Look for their new album, Thistled Spring the day before (April 20th) on Kill Rock Stars.

Yeasayer :: Odd Blood

Posted on Tuesday 9 February 2010

Odd Blood

Today, Yeasayer released their new album, Odd Blood, which is still working its way through my brain. The band has always been amazing live and bring those talents to the Majestic Theatre in Madison along with Sleigh Bells on Wednesday, April 28th. Odd Blood is currently available as a $3.99 digital download here.

Also out today is Hot Chip’s One Life Stand which was just given Best New Music props over at P4K. We’ve been big fans of their previous records and their live shows are always great. We’re leaning towards making the trek to Chicago to catch them and the xx at the Riviera on Friday, April 19th.

News:

The 2010 Pickathon Indie Roots Music Festival has just released their line up that is overflowing with Muzzle of Bees favorites. Scheduled to perform at Pendarvis Farm in Portland, Oregon from August 6-8 are Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Megafaun, The Heartless Bastards, Roadside Graves, The Cave Singers and Langhorne Slim. Yeah, that’s definitely a festival worth traveling to. Tickets are currently on sale here.

Horse Feathers will release Thistled Spring April 20th on Kill Rock Stars. We’ve loved every album Justin Ringle has put in front of us. Add this release to the list of our most anticipated releases of the year.

The Tallest Man On Earth returns to Milwaukee for a $10 show at the Pabst Theater on Tuesday, May 25th.

Photos: Horse Feathers + Joe Pug – Terrace, Madison

Posted on Friday 1 May 2009

horse-feathers-terrace-3

Spending a night on the Terrace is one of the best ways to pass an evening in Madison come Spring/Summer. Last night was no different, though the cold wind off Lake Mendota was making its presence known. I wouldn’t trade my frozen fingers to have missed last night’s show. It seems like Horse Feathers had become my concert going white whale. Each of their prior stops in the city, I’ve been elsewhere. I was also thrilled that I got to see Joe Pug for the first time. He sounds (and looks) like a young Dylan with his acoustic guitar and harmonica hung round his neck.

Seeing the show last night solidified my decision to put both Horse Feathers records, Words Are Dead (2006) and House With No Home (2008), on their respective year’s best of list. Check out the shots from Ed Oliver and please leave a comment with your thoughts/review of the show.
