I caught Wye Oak last night at the Parish in Austin. The band’s 2011 release, Civilian
remains one of my favorites of the year. Thanks to a fan request the band returned for a encore to perform their cover of Danzig’s “Mother,” which first appeared here.
Grantland (my new favorite website) premiered the new video from Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks.
My Old Kentucky Blog shares a great new video from EMA, who also covers The Violent Femmes here.
Pitchfork reviews Dreamers of the Ghetto. Pick up their album Enemy/Lover
. It’s available on vinyl for on $10 at Temporary Residence.
Speaking of vinyl, visit or label imprint, Ten Atoms, and check out our releases. We’ve recently released new albums from Sat. Nite Duets, Testa Rosa, Eric & Magill as well as a second pressing of Strand of Oaks Pope Killdragon.
I recommended it earlier this week, but once again have to say how much I’m enjoying Technicolor Teeth out of Appleton, WI. They have a 3-song digital EP available as a free download.
Speaking of new discoveries, check out Nick Waterhouse. I can highly recommend the tracks “I Can Only Give You Everything” and “Some Place.” If you like what you hear, check out his Is That Clear EP
.
Real Estate’s new album Days
is the first album I’ve heard by the band. I really like it and can point you to a full album stream of the new album at NPR.
I’m heading to CMJ in New York next week. Send me your showcase recommendations.
